Alabama beat Clemson 45-40 to win the 2016 college football national crown in Glendale, Arizona.

The game included a memorable bit of trickery. With the score knotted at 24 in the fourth quarter, Alabama kicker Adam Griffith lofted a pop kick that was caught by teammate Marlon Humphrey. Several plays later Alabama took the lead on a touchdown pass from Jake Coker to O.J. Howard (208 receiving yards). “I think that (kick) changed the momentum of the game,” Alabama Coach Nick Saban said.

But Clemson made Alabama work for the championship trophy. With twelve seconds on the clock Dabo Swinney’s Tigers scored a touchdown, to make the score 45-40.

Heisman winner Derrick Henry amassed 158 yards and three touchdowns on 36 carries for Alabama, while Clemson quarterback, Deshaun Watson, passed for a championship-record 405 yards and four touchdowns and added 73 rushing yards.

Saban has now won five national titles and Alabama claimed its fourth since the 2009 season.
